Layoffs, 100 out 100 in, Eddie Adams, Media Storm, creating another storm, video editing tips, 360 sound fun and more.

100 out

I've been in a bad mood lately, knowing that about 150 journalists in the Bay Area will loose their jobs in the next few weeks due to layoffs at the SF Chron and The Merc. So I'm mustering enough positive energy to post.

100 in

Let's say congrats to the 100 photojournalists who got into The Eddie Adams Workshop. Looks like a talented bunch, have fun and good luck!

Media Storm

While reading this on the MediaStorm blog:

Jessica Stuart has joined MediaStorm as a project manager.

Jessica will continue in her current role as workshop director for The Eddie Adams Workshop which will celebrate it’s 20th anniversary this year in October.

While she won’t be full time at MediaStorm until November, Jessica will be expanding our blog coverage, writing grants and developing the upcoming MediaStorm Advanced Multimedia Workshop.

My eyes got really wide when I saw the last line! Start saving! This is the first I've heard of this, you won't wanna miss it, I'm sure! I'm already planning on going if I can get in! Until then, here's a great workshop I heard about and would love to go to as well, [better hurry, I think they only accept about 36 folks]

2007 Multimedia News Producers Workshop:Digital Video Storytelling

August 16-18, 2007

Ready to learn to gather sound, shoot video and structure a great story? The Institute for New Media Studies has the workshop for you.

In this hands-on workshop you will learn to:

  • Gather and edit audio
  • Shoot and edit video
  • Tell a great story
  • Become the digital storyteller you know is within you!

What:

Three days of hands-on learning and real-world, expert instruction focused on improving audio and video digital storytelling skills starting from scratch. Participants will learn about the latest in gear, how to operate camera equipment, shoot film “on assignment,” and edit video, audio and stills for compelling visual storytelling – all from professionals at the top of their craft.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE:

The New Media Training

at WKU's Mountain Workshops. Information can be downloaded at http://www.mountainworkshops.org

The workshop is comprised of three separate – yet connected – training
sections. You can apply for the traditional "become a better still
photographer and story teller", or spend the week working as a picture
editor – editing said photographers work, or, and NEW this year, become a
better online story teller using stills, audio and video. This new media
seminar is considered an advanced workshop. It is not a software training
ground but really will be comprised of some great coaches mentoring the
student on the process of gathering better new media stories. So some
experience in the necessary software is mandatory.

The new media coaches and staff this year include Joe Weiss, Colin Mulvaney,
Chad Stevens, Tim Broekema, Carrie Pratt, Ken Harper, Bob Sacha, Justin
Winter, Rob Finch plus more to be named.
